Windhorse Books has been in operation since 1994 distributing books to bookshops, Buddhist groups and individuals. By distributing quality Buddhist books we hope to further the understanding and practice of the Buddha’s teachings.
We try and make available resources from the full range of Buddhist traditions, from canonical texts through to expressions of practice from contemporary teachers who are attempting to speak and teach to our current and ever-changing conditions and, within that, the diversity and depth of our widespread and worldwide Buddhist community.
We also supply items that support the practice of meditation and devotional practices, from meditation cushions, stool and mats, through to Buddhist statues, ritual objects, incense and more…

We welcome you to join Metta Centre and support us with organising events to share the Dhamma and build spiritual friendships.
The Lotus Library was created to spread the teachings of the Buddha. We are a small group of practicing, Buddhist volunteers located in Sydney, Australia. The organisation is a registered charity and no one involved charges for their time.
The eBooks in the Library are mostly available through the Creative Commons Licence. Our authors only allow their work to be shared in a non-commercial way, so there is no charge and no eBook can be downloaded and sold. Older books in the catalogue are available due to being out of copyright.
We welcome bona fide lay and monastic authors to add Buddhist articles and books to the collection.
We also welcome volunteers to help maintain and update the website.

Metta Centre hosts a diverse array of events to cater to the multifaceted interests of the Buddhist community:
- Wednesday Talks: Every Wednesday, we invite renowned Buddhist teachers from across the globe to share their wisdom. These interactive events, equipped with facilitated question and answer sessions, primarily focus on providing practical advice to enhance daily life and practice.
- Temple Visits: We arrange visits to various temples such as the Nan Tien Temple in Wollongong and Mountain Springs Monastery in Blue Mountains. These visits offer opportunities to deepen spiritual friendships, explore behind-the-scenes temple life, engage with monastics, and partake in Dhamma talks.
- Retreats: In the spirit that Dhamma should be freely accessible, we organise complimentary weekend retreats at the Metta Centre and other locations like the Karuna Centre. These retreats provide a tranquil setting to learn from seasoned teachers, meditate, and connect with oneself.
- Metta Festival: This festive event celebrates the diverse cultures within Buddhism. It’s a chance to bring together spiritual friends for a fun-filled gathering centered around unity and Buddhist traditions.
- Metta Convention: Featuring panel events and talks by well-known, respected monastics from around the world, this convention focuses on the theme of Metta. It offers a chance to delve deeper into Dhamma teachings and foster spiritual friendships.
- Ad Hoc Events: From yoga and Tai Chi sessions to bush walks and workshops with monasteries, we offer a wide range of activities that explore unique ways to practice Buddhism. These events vary, aimed at appealing to the diverse interests within our community and offering novel experiences in practicing and understanding Buddhism.
Through these diverse events, Metta Centre continues its mission of fostering spiritual friendships and promoting the principle of “one Buddhism” across all traditions.
We invite you to join us as a volunteer. Volunteers play an integral role at the Metta Centre, as Metta Centre is run completely by volunteers practicing Dana, Generosity. As a volunteer, you’ll be contributing to the planning and execution of our diverse range of events. Volunteering is not just about lending a helping hand – it’s also a golden opportunity to meet and bond with spiritual friends.
Metta Connections is an online professional network platform to help connect lay people with Buddhist organisations to practise right livelihood and give back to the community.
Designed for Buddhist organisations to connect with Buddhist professionals and vice-versa, Metta Connections is a pilot program spearheaded by Metta Centre. It is currently free and open to all who are based in Australia. At the end of the pilot, the team will review the model of Metta Connections going forward. It is the platform you are on right now to either support a Buddhist organisation, or find Buddhists to support your organisation.
We are on the look out for supports to maintain and update the website, and provide oversight of site activities. You’ll join a committee of Buddhist volunteers at Metta Centre to eat, laugh and work together.
What does Buddhism say about same sex marriage?
How can I overcome barriers to giving loving kindness to myself?
What did the Buddha teach regarding Karma?
These are some of the questions people have asked through the Metta centre ask a Buddhist program.
The program started during lockdown as a way to connect people who were confined to their homes with monastic and lay teachers. A wonderful panel of monastic and lay teachers have kindly answered many of the questions. But after lockdowns ended we realised that people still wanted to keep asking questions, and so the program kept going.
The program has become a way for those who do not know any Buddhist teachers nearby to contact Buddhist teachers and ask questions. So far, we have had over 100 questions and answers. People can ask questions by filling out an online form. Then, the Ask A Buddhist coordinator will email the question to a panel of our 30+ lay and monastic teachers, and then email the answer back.
